Welcome!

Minneapolis Library Handbook picture

The Minneapolis Public Library is moving to Step 3 in its total reopening process.  In this step, the Library will return to normal operating hours on June 22nd.    There will still be certain restrictions in place. Social distancing will remain the rule of the day (6 feet between patrons). A continued higher level of disinfection of the Library facility (i.e. front desk, light switches, door handles tables etc.) will remain in place.  The stacks will be opened for patron use to select their reading materials.  Magazines and Newspapers will continue to remain unavailable. Restrooms will be opened.  Disinfectant wipes will be available for restroom use by patrons and staff.  There will also be increased cleaning to look out for the safety of the public.  The drinking fountain will remain closed until a later date to be determined.

Computers will be reopened subject to restrictions.  To maintain social distance, only every other computer will be available for use.  A strict 1-hour, 1-person limit will also be in place.  A signup sheet will be maintained by staff.  Computers will be disinfected between uses.  Users will not be able to approach the computers until called by staff.  With the exception of young children, with their parents or caregivers, no observers will be allowed in the computer area.

Seating areas will be opened, but predetermined seating distances will be maintained.  Seating will be disinfected after every use.  Tables will also be wiped down after every use and as often as necessary in between.  Again, only 1 person per seat, with the exception of infants or young children.

No puzzles or games will be available for patrons until a later to be determined date.  Phones, may only be used by staff.  Calls will be placed and/or messages delivered by staff members.  The Meeting Room will be opened subject to users signing a waiver.  While these restrictions may seem heavy, Library Board and Staff members are looking out for the best interest and health of its users.
